Jean Abshire, associate professor of political science and international studies, has visited 36 countries, recently signed a contract to write a book on politics in Singapore and still has time to teach at IU Southeast.

New chief on campus

IU Southeast hired a new chief of police, Charles Edelen, on Sept. 1. Edelen came from the Louisville Metro Police Department, where he worked for 21 years. His experience as a firefighter, member of the bomb squad and the hostage negotiating team qualified him for the position.

IUS professor appointed to Yale as curator

Yale University has appointed IU Southeast professor of biology, David Taylor, as curator for their Peabody Museum due to his contributions of rare cretaceous plants and research on flowering plant fossils.

The arrival of the fall semester brings the arrival of a new kitchen chef to the IUS Dining Services. Chef Dylan Starkey is an IU graduate with a degree in anthropology. However, after working in the restaurant business, he said culinary arts seemed to be his true calling.
