Sometimes in a competition, when a prize is thrown into a situation, typically all the things an athlete has learned about teamwork and camaraderie seem to be forgotten, and suddenly it becomes every person for his or herself. However, the IUS men’s and women’s basketball teams are now being looked at as an example of how a team should behave. Both teams at IU Southeast have won the Championship of Character award twice during the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

IUS set to host KIAC championship

The Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference selected IU Southeast to host the semifinal and championship games this year. “I’m very honored to host the KIAC this year,” Joe Glover, athletic director, said. Previously, the KIAC was a Kentucky-school conference only, but it has now expanded to Indiana, Ohio and Pennsylvania, adding more teams to the competition throughout the years.

IUS receives NAIA champion award

For the first time, IU Southeast was awarded the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Champions of Character Five Star Award for 2010-2011 on Oct. 5. “We want to be a five star institution,” Joe Glover, athletic director, said. There is a formula the NAIA figures up, and institutions that scoring more than 60 points are added to the list of Champions of Character Five Star Award winners.
