Baseball team looks to build on past success

The IUS baseball team is set to start the spring season. After working hard during the off-season, the team is looking to make this season one of their best. The team began in late August when players and coaches worked together during tryouts to gather a team of their best talent. Since then, they worked to prepare themselves for the upcoming season.

SGA goes on educational trip to Indianapolis

After returning from the Indiana Statehouse, Student Government Association members passed two bills on Thursday, Feb. 4 to purchase office supplies and combine senate elections.The SGA took a trip to the Statehouse on Feb. 2, to participate in the Hoosiers for Higher Education event.

Winter luau warms up cold night

Residence Life and Housing hosted a Winter Luau on Wednesday, Jan. 27, in the Hoosier Room. About 50 students attended, despite the cold and snow that night. Students were given flower leis at the door, danced to music and built sandbox art in the five sandboxes set up on tables in the room.

IU Southeast up for re-accreditation

IU Southeast is undergoing the final process of accreditation this semester to determine the qualities of the university. The accreditation process is a method for determining how the campus performs. The North Central Association of Colleges and Schools comes to IU Southeast every 10 years to see how the university has improved.

It’s been a long time coming. Our trusty printer, recently dubbed “wheezy” by me, has hit the age where everything creaks and groans in protest. There are times when only one page might print and, if you need more, it sometimes takes quite a bit of abuse to coerce everything into submission. After attempting to get one page to copy for 30 minutes, I realized that The Horizon has to be one of the top penny-pinching groups on campus.

Junior basketball player gets it right second time around

Rick Bodiford, communications junior, has come a long way to be a key player on the IUS men’s basketball team. Bodiford grew up in Atlanta and moved to Louisville when he was a sophomore in high school. He said he met a coach in Georgia who told him how much bigger and more competitive basketball was in Kentucky.

Grenadiers remain undefeated in KIAC

The IU Southeast women’s basketball team defeated visiting Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic conference opponent Midway College 94-69 on Tuesday, Jan. 19, at the Activities Building. With the win, IU Southeast improved their record to 13-7 and 6-0 in the KIAC. Midway’s record dropped to 6-14 and 2-2 in the KIAC.

Women’s basketball shuts down Eagles

The IUS women’s basketball team defeated the Asbury College Eagles on Saturday, Jan. 23, 77-54 in the Activities Building. The win pushes the Grenadiers’ record to 14-7 overall and is the fifth in a row for the IUS women, who remain undefeated in conference play, with a 7-0 record in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

SGA discusses Internet service

During the Jan. 28 Student Government Association meeting, two students vented frustrations about the lack of Internet service in the residence halls. Kathryn Haymon, psychology freshman, and Daniel Murray, philosophy freshman, were upset about being unable to receive Internet access in their lodges.
