Ink and Expression: Deep Search Tattoo

Chelsey Elswick

Ever wonder where a good tattoo shop is? Not just to get a tattoo, but as a place to work?

One of them is Deep Search Tattoo in Clarksville. It opened in 2018. Joey Cox has worked there for six months.

“The atmosphere is very amazing, and the location is great,” Cox said. “It’s an up-and-coming place by the Ohio River. The people I work with are great, they motivate me and compliment me to make sure I become the best tattoo artist I can be.”

Deep Search Tattoo is located in a new development that only has independently owned shops. They do not want corporations and big brands like McDonalds, Starbucks, and Taco Bell – just to name a few. The area is still under construction and has buildings waiting for new business owners to claim them. They are also adding apartment buildings above the businesses that owners could live in or rent out.

The owner of Deep Search wanted to create a comfortable environment not only for his artists, but for his customers too. The small space helps make customers feel more comfortable and less overwhelmed, especially if customers are getting a tattoo in a frisky area. “Deep Search is a clean and professional environment with professional artists that go above and beyond to make sure every client leaves happy,” said Cox.

Greg Mosier, the owner of Deep Search, explained its name and why he opened up his own tattoo shop. “I had worked in several tattoo studios over the last 20 years and always wanted to own my own place as a way to run it ‘my’ way to see if it was something that could truly be different. Also, there’s no real way to retire unless you have income from others to supplement yours. The thought of having something to leave for my children is something I cherish as well.”

The name “Deep Search” came from Mosier’s favorite film, “The Life Aquatic,” where it was the name of Steve Zissou’s submarine.

If you have ever been interested in becoming a tattoo artist, Deep Search is open to new talent. “Typically, it starts with a conversation and some samples of your artwork,” Mosier said. “From there, we go over what expectations would be and do sort of a ‘trial period’ to see if everything feels right.”

If you are interested in checking out Deep Search, you can contact their social media accounts, call the shop, or stop by in person.
