The end of the academic year is upon us, and with it comes the graduation of the class of 2026. Some seniors may go into the real world and find a job, while others may continue their academic studies as graduates. Graduation is always an event filled with nervousness, excitement, and wonder about what’s next. No matter what future graduates decide to do, earning a college degree is a huge accomplishment, and Indiana University Southeast students are eager to take their next step.
Looking back on college can be bittersweet for some. Senior Abby Shields reflected on her time, stating, “My time at IUS has been nothing short of amazing and fulfilling.” Shields has thoroughly enjoyed her time here and has found the clubs and resources offered to be life-changing. “I quickly got involved with Christian Student Fellowship and found a community of fellow believers, and have met some of my best friends there,” said Shields. While the connections and memories made in college can be unforgettable, moving forward with a degree is a monumental step in the next stage of life for college students.
With a college degree, students can have the leverage to find a job in the field that they desire. Shields, a Journalism/Media major, is ecstatic about earning her degree and transitioning into her next stage of life. “I’m feeling very excited and very much sentimental. This campus has given so much to me. I’m sad to see it end, but I’m very excited to have my degree,” said Shields. While Shields is sad to leave the campus, her plans outside of college involve staying close. She plans to stay involved with IUS and Christian Fellowship alumni groups.
As Graduation nears, students are now having to give thought to the question: What’s next? For Shields, she plans on spending more time with friends and her hobbies with her extra free time after graduating. Every graduate’s story is different, and it’ll be exciting to see where the students of IUS can make an impact in the real world. IUS’s graduation ceremony will be held on Thursday, May 14, at 10 a.m. The ceremony will be held at the Caesars Foundation of Floyd County Amphitheater on the IUS campus.
