Dear Editors:
Stop publishing stories about nascar (I’m not even going to capitalize it). It’s an American embarrassment.
Every summer, my brother, my dad and myself used to spend a day in Indy watching
Formula One’s qualifying rounds for the U.S. Grand Prix. How lucky was I to live in THE state where the United States hosted its F1 Grand Prix!
Well, a few years ago the U.S. stopped hosting the grand prix. Why?
Americans weren’t attending. Ticket sales in the U.S. had plummeted — we weren’t interested. I guess we’d rather buy tickets to nascar — races?
That is, if you define a race as driving in an oval for hours on end and listening to the twangy excitement of commentators when there’s some ridiculous pile-up on the track.
No thanks. I want Formula One back.
Nascar will NEVER match the level of technology, driving skill or even the national elements of a Formula One race. You can’t ignore the air-horn-equipped Brazilians decked out in blue, yellow and green.
Oh, and Juan Pablo Montoya’s “switcheroo” is a disgrace.
