Crestview Hall was the focus of building renovations this past summer.

New windows were installed, mortar was added and the roof was replaced.

“Crestview was a large project completed by contractors,” Jim Wolfe, director of Physical Plant, said.

Elsewhere on campus, the air-handling unit in the Hoosier Room was replaced.

Wolfe said he was excited about plans for renovations coming up in the near future.

“We’re planning on a slight improvement in the lighting system and a cosmetic upgrade in the Hoosier Room,” Wolfe said.

When asked what this cosmetic upgrade was, Wolfe said he wasn’t sure, but he did explain the lighting would be tweaked to make it more aesthetically pleasing. He said lights will be able to be dimmed for slideshow presentations or centered on the stage for speaker presentations.

Wolfe also said some painting and carpeting would be done this winter in the McCauley Nicolas Building, which is the IUS graduate student center located in Jeffersonville.

Another plan is to connect the technology on campus up to a generator, so when the power goes out, staff and faculty can still use computers for work.

There are plans for a sound upgrade in the Stem Concert Hall.

Wolfe also said there were plans to replace the old open-air shelter for the Physical Plant equipment after the wind and ice storms damaged it.  The new shelter will be protected against inclement weather and situated behind the Physical Plant.
Wolfe said he was most excited about the expansion of The Commons.  The expansions will make about 50 percent more room for students during the busy lunch time. Food and Dining Services is currently working on coming up with alternative ways to provide food during that time.
