Keith Folkner, a 13-year-veteran of the Muncie, Ind., Police Force, has recently joined the IUS police force.
Folkner decided to come to IU Southeast because it seemed like the perfect fit. “I really enjoy the family atmosphere,” Folkner said. “The location is great, and I am a huge Indiana University fan.”
His new job at IU Southeast is to provide protection and assistance on campus and to issue parking tickets.
“The No. 1 issue for the university police is that students are not purchasing parking permits,” Folkner said.
Folkner said he decided to become a police officer after being in the Army for eight years.
“The military put me in the right direction,” Folkner said. “I set goals for myself.”
He said he credits his father for his work ethic and determination.
“My father is my role model,” Folkner said. “He always worked so hard for what he had.”
Folkner is a graduate from The Indiana Law Enforcement Academy, and he said he really loves his career.
“I get enjoyment from a small child wanting to shake my hand,” Folkner said. “It is the little things that make this job worthwhile.”
