In an absence of seniors on the IUS women’s tennis team, Ashley Bunch, nursing junior, has stepped up to be the tennis captain. “If our coach is running late or if she’s not there for some reason, I get everyone organized,” Bunch said. Bunch started playing tennis when she was seven, and she played varsity tennis for three years at Bedford High School.

The IUS women’s tennis team hosted the Bellarmine Knights on Sept. 30. The Grenadiers first faced the Knights at the DePauw Invitational earlier this season. Rebecca Porter, Bellarmine women’s tennis assistant head coach, said they normally do pretty well when facing IU Southeast.

The IUS women’s tennis team is once again on top of the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference coaches’ preseason poll. In the poll, released Aug. 15, the team earned six first place votes, putting the defending conference regular season and tournament winners ahead of the competition. IU East was ranked second, with Asbury University in third.
