IUS marketing reaches out

The IUS Board of Advisers recognized a need to educate the community about IU Southeast. “The need to educate the community about IU Southeast is important,” Jenny Wolfe, director of University Communications, said. The IUS Accreditation Committee said IU Southeast didn’t seem to be recognized in Southern Indiana for doing things in the community.

IUS gets $90K military grant

IU Southeast recently received a $90,250 grant from the Military Family Research Institute at Purdue University. This money was given to help create new opportunities and services for military students, veterans and their families.

Bookstore not affected by potential company sale

The IUS Bookstore owner, Barnes & Noble, made the announcement they will be exploring the option of selling their company. Barnes & Noble released a statement saying, due to falling stock, the board is considering all options, including a possible sale. Barnes & Noble not only is the largest book retailer, owning 720 namesake bookstores across the nation but is also the owner of the IUS Bookstore.

IUS buys touch-based computer

The Microsoft Surface tabletop computer, located in the University Grounds Coffee Shop across from the IUS Bookstore, has some students captivated with just the touch of the finger. Ruth Garvey-Nix, vice chancellor of Student Affairs, said she first encountered the tabletop computers in the lobby of the Hyatt Hotel while attending a conference in Chicago, Ill., along with Seuth Chaleunphonh, dean of Student Life. Chaleunphonh said he thought students would enjoy the tables because of the unique gaming features and stylish design but thought they were a little pricey with a price tag around $15,000.
