Women’s Tennis
Women’s tennis started the sports week for IU Southeast as they travelled to Bellarmine University on Sunday. The Grenadiers (4-2, 3-0 KIAC) were only able to take two sets from the Knights (1-0) in a 7-2 losing effort.
Whitney Batliner was able to defeat Bellarmine’s Jamie Claeys in two sets 7-5 and 7-5 to give the Grenadiers their only victory in singles play.
Katherine Clark and Maddie Ikerd convincingly defeated Bellarmine’s Elizabeth Crush and Madeline Tucker 8-2 for the Grenadiers double victory.
Women’s tennis sits atop the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (KIAC) and will travel to Carlow University to take on the Celtics on Saturday, October 12.
Volleyball
The volleyball team played three games last week, winning two of the three.
The Grenadiers (12-7, 4-1 KIAC) first traveled Asbury University (19-7, 6-1 KIAC) where they were defeated in four sets. A disappointing lose because the Grenadiers swept the Eagles in three straight sets at home last month.
Sara Schum led the attack with 18 kills while Stephanie Bradshaw contributed 19 digs for IU Southeast.
The Grenadiers then came home and hosted a tri-match on Saturday. IU Southeast was able to edge out a victory against Carlow University (15-15, 4-6 KIAC) in five sets. The Grenadiers first fell behind two sets to none before winning three straight sets to come out on top.
Jade Troutman led the team with 17 kills and Schum was right behind her with 16. Bradshaw anchored with defense with 21 digs.
Carlow University then played IU Kokomo for the second match of the day. IU Kokomo won the match in three straight sets.
IU Southeast then hosted IU Kokomo (23-6, 8-2 KIAC) for the third and final match of the night. The Grenadiers were able to handle the Cougars in three straight sets 25-16, 25-19 and 25-21.
Once again the Grenadiers were led by Schum with 15 kills and Bradshaw with 16 digs. Nicole Jones added to the attack with 14 kills.
The Grenadiers travel to IU East on Tuesday for their only game this week.
