Quintera Quinn, elementary education freshman, always wanted to start an a capella group throughout high school and now she is bringing her dream alive here at IUS.
“I always wanted to be involved in a capella,” Quinn said. “I remember in high school a group of three of my friends and I wanted to start a barber shop quartet but none of us had time.”
Quinn mentioned her idea of starting an a capella group at IUS to her new friends on campus and they were all for making it happen.
“I brought the idea up to my friends and they were all for it,” Quinn said.
Caroline Green, secondary education and vocal performance freshman, is friends with Quinn as well as vice president of the a capella group and helped judge the auditions.
“I am signed in Nashville and in the process of creating an album. I just finished a summer tour as well as competing in the X Factor,” Green said.
“Due to summer tour schedules and contracts clashing, I did have to drop out in round two, but it taught me a lot about what makes a good audition and how to stand out in a crowd, which is something that we need soloists in this group to do.”
Green said that she thinks the auditions went really well and believe the group will have a successful year ahead of them.
“My hopes for this year are just to get our roots planted,” Green said. “For the next auditions, I want to see our numbers doubled. And I just want us to keep growing from there.”
Audrey Landford, psychology freshman, auditioned for the a capella group and was one of the 10 people who made it through auditions into the group.
“The audition process was pretty similar to other auditions I’ve done, maybe a little more fair because unbiased judges/panels are the best ones to have,” Lanford said.
Quinn said that the next step for the a capella group is to hold meetings and get the group prepared to perform.
“We will begin preparing music,” Quinn said. “We’d like to sing around school if possible, so that people know who we are and that we mean business. We really want to make ourselves known, and hopefully make people want to audition the next time.”
