The ladies of Phi Sigma Sigma hosted a dance on Saturday night to raise money for Down Syndrome of Louisville.
The event was located in the Hoosier room and featured live music and pizza.
Admission was charged at the door and all proceeds went to fund programs at Down Syndrome of Louisville, an organization that cares for children and adults with down syndrome.
The event was attended by several members of DSL who danced to music by Mike and The Allstars, featuring vocals by Mike Bush and Brian Graser, two adults living with Down Syndrome.
The Phi Sigma Sigma sisters served pizza and popcorn, donated by the Student Alumni Association, during breaks from dancing.
“We’ve been planning the event since September,” Alyssa Hendershot, Phi Sigma Sigma sister, said.
Down Syndrome of Louisville recently merged with Down Syndrome Support Association of Southern Indiana and now provides programs for Kentucky and 10 counties in Southern Indiana.
“We’re a life long learning center,” Carly Stotts, program specialist at Down Syndrome of Louisville said, “children will start in programs at DSL as soon as diagnosis [with downs syndrome].”
The dance coincided with the IUS Homecoming basketball games and attracted basketball fans after the games were over.
