Despite thunderstorms the night before, the Grenadier baseball team played a double header Friday, April 3, at the Koetter Sports Baseball Complex against Brescia University.
The Grenadiers were 15-17 overall and 4-1 in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference going into Friday’s game, but had lost three straight coming into the game.
The Bearcats had won four consecutive games coming into the first game of a four game set with the Grenadiers and were 22-10 overall and 8-0 in the KIAC.
Game one came to a close when Drew Locascio, senior shortstop, made an amazing catch after slipping and falling flat on his back. Locascio caught the last out of the final inning breaking the Grenadiers’ losing streak, winning the game 6-2.
Game two also went well for the Grenadiers, winning the game 12-2 and evening up their overall record at 17-17 and improving their record to 6-1 in the KIAC.
Paul Dunagan, Grenadiers’ junior catcher, had a sacrifice hit that brought in the twelfth and final run of the day in the seventh inning.
The Brescia players were disappointed with their effort.
“I wish we didn’t come out so flat in the second game,” David Roberts, Brescia senior outfielder, said.
