The offices in the Athletics Building were damaged by water following a flood in June that left more than seven inches of water in the offices.
Pat Mrozowski, Athletics director, and Joe Glover, assistant Athletics director, were at out-of-town conferences at the time of the flood.
Glover said Perry Brown, intramural coordinator, was the only person in the offices. Brown was assisted by members of the Physical Plant and the IT department in saving as much as they could.
The Athletics Department lost more than $15,000 in furniture and other equipment from the offices, but they were able to save all of the computers.
“We were kind of lucky,” Glover said. “A lot of people chipped in.”
Mrozowski said if the flood had to happen, it happened at the right time because it was the off-season and most people were not in the offices.
“This was the best time of the year for it to happen,” Mrozowski said.
The damage happened because contractors, who were putting a roof on the Activities Building, did not seal the roof properly. The following day a massive storm swept through the area, causing the flood.
The fitness center is currently operating under temporary hours while the offices are being finished, and the flood should not affect any athletics activities in the coming weeks, as the gym was not damaged at all.
“The volleyball season will be going off without a hitch,” Glover said.
The temporary offices for Athletics personnel are in the former Purdue University building on Hausfeldt Lane.
Mrozowski said the former Purdue building being open has made the transition a smooth one.
Glover said the athletics staff hopes to be back in their offices within the next month.
