The Indiana University football national championship trophy will make a stop at Indiana University Southeast on April 15, allowing students and members of the community to have a chance to celebrate a historic achievement in person. This event will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on the IUS campus and is part of a broader outreach following Indiana University Bloomington’s national title. Event organizers say the stop highlights the connection between IU campuses while giving local fans a chance to be a part of the celebration.
IUS Athletic Director Tod Banister said that the campus was honored to be selected as a stop on the tour and emphasized the importance of including the entire IU community in the celebration. When asked how this tour connects all IU campuses, he stated, “It shows that even though the championship was won in Bloomington, it belongs to all the IU campuses and fans across the state. Banister also discussed that if fans attend the event, they should be ready for more than just a photo opportunity with the trophy. He notes that the event will include interactive events, gear for fans and school spirit activities to engage with IU athletics. “We want people to feel connected to this achievement. It’s about celebrating together and building excitement across all IU campuses.” Banister added.
The tour stop is expected to attract a wide audience, including students, staff, families and local residents. IUS officials hope that the event will strengthen school spirit while also building unity across IU’s regional campuses. Students are buzzing with excitement on campus and are excited for the event. Morgan Roberts, an IUS sophomore, said that the opportunity to see the trophy in person makes the achievement even more meaningful. “I think it is absolutely an amazing opportunity for the trophy to come to our school,” Roberts said. “I am so excited to be able to get a picture with it because it is such an amazing accomplishment that IU Bloomington achieved.” Roberts also added that her lifelong connection to IU makes the experience especially significant. “Just the fact that I’ve been a Hoosier fan since birth makes this even more exciting and then being able to be a part of an IU branch and see the trophy, it’s amazing.”
By bringing the national championship trophy to the IUS campus, the university officials hope to strengthen the ties between campuses while giving fans a chance to celebrate a historic and defining moment in IU history. The event will be free and open to the public.
