On Saturday, Aug. 30, IU Southeast kicked off the fourth annual alumni tournament, but in this tournament there are no winners or losers.
“It’s just for fun,” Matt Coomer, junior tennis player, said.
Coomer, IU Southeast’s number one ranked player, was proud of his performance.
The event was organized by the IUS men’s tennis coach Yancey Walters. It is an opportunity for the alumni players to meet and greet the new players.
He said he believes it is important for new players to partner with one another and get an opportunity to meet each other and meet former players.
“Although the alumni tournament has been going on for years, this is the first year we’ve had a mixed tournament. But it is a great time to get the guys and girls familiar with one another,” Walters said.
Robert Briscoe, Silver Creek High School’s boys’ tennis coach and 2006 IUS graduate, enjoyed the event.
“It’s great coming out here and seeing everyone,” he said. “It’s nice to run into old friends.”
The alumni double team of Britney Orme and Isaac Orme squared off against fellow alumni Jessica McCain and Zak Leffler.
The four enjoyed a casual, laid-back match.
Britney and Isaac Orme, who are married, criticized one another throughout the match trading jolly critiques amongst serves.
