The women’s basketball team won a game against a team of IUS alumnae 64-50 on Oct. 16, in the Activities building.
At the end of the first half, the Grenadiers were ahead 33-13. The alumnae team made a good effort to catch up in the second half. During the second half the alumnae team was ahead of the women’s basketball team.
“It was a good experience,” Robin Farris, head coach of the women’s basketball team, said.
Robin Farris said his team used this game as a learning experience.
“It was a test for us, it showed some of our weaknesses,” Farris said.
The team is young and has not had a lot of time to practice together. They are still trying to learn their strengths and weaknesses.
“We haven’t been practicing very long, so we really haven’t had a lot of time to work on it,” he said.
Farris found things that the team needed to work on as they were playing the game.
“Defensively, we fouled too much. We are really going to have to work on moving our feet better, communicating better,” he said.
Farris has time to work with his team to improve their weaknesses. The season begins when the Grenadiers take on Daemen College as part of the St. Francis Tournament on Nov. 6.
“I think it’s going to be an interesting year. We’ve got a lot of new people, and a lot of new people returning. It’s just finding out what combinations work for us,” Farris said.
The alumnae team played a good game against the women’s basketball team.
Treasure McFarland, alumnae team guard, said the game was tiring.
McFarland said the team could have improved by being in better shape.
The women’s basketball team will play a scrimmage game at Vincennes on Oct. 22.
