This semester, the Career Development Center is welcoming employers on campus almost every week from throughout southern Indiana and Kentucky.

Called Table Tuesdays, these mid-day networking opportunities are inside University Center South behind the bookstore and next to University Grounds coffee shop.

Recently, Marriott Louisville was on campus to recruit for full-time, part-time, and internship positions. The hotel is looking for “hospitalitarians” to work onsite. Recruiting manager Rachel Spadavecchia shared insight on what the company is looking for in potential employees. “All majors are welcome to apply. We’re looking for driven, hardworking individuals who are interested in working in hospitality careers.”

Marriott Louisville is operated by White Lodging, a family-owned company that has multiple properties around the country. White Lodging operates Marriott, Hilton, and Hyatt hotels in central urban locations such as Denver, Indianapolis, Nashville, and more. This opens the door to opportunities for people interested in traveling nationwide. .

White Lodging focuses on their business as “hospitalitarians.” The company operates over 50 premium hotels, 40 locally relevant and award-winning restaurants, and 10 market-leading rooftop bars.

The company also boasts an array of benefits available on a new employee’s first day of work. Medical insurance begins as low as $2 per day, and when enrolling in healthcare insurance, vision insurance comes at no cost. Vacations and paid time-off are offered immediately. On top of this, employees are given discounts when staying at White Lodging hotels and when eating at White Lodgingoperated restaurants. For those in college while employed, tuition reimbursement is another benefit.

Regarding scheduling, White Lodging is flexible and works with employees on their availability – something every student wants in a job. “It does get busier around the holidays. However, Marriott Louisville is busy regularly due to it being a convention hotel,” Spadavecchia said. Marriott Louisville is located across the street from the Kentucky Convention Center. Pay begins at $15 per hour.

The Career Development Center has reserved most Tuesdays throughout the Spring 2023 semester to introduce more students to prospective employers. There will be 15 Table Tuesdays hosted during the spring semester The visiting employers present are focused on something other than finding one specific major.  Some tables include Floyd County YMCA, Social Security Administration, Kelly Education, FedEx, and more.

For many years, the Career Development Center has hosted a variety of employers in this manner, but stopped briefly due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Since last fall, IU Southeast has welcomed employers and recruiters on campus once again.
