IU Southeast has an open fitness center that all students, faculty and staff can use for free.
The fitness center is located inside the Activities Building on the south side of the campus.
The general public can use the fitness center, but they either have to be a member of the Grenadier club or buy a $5 guest pass.
You can get those in the office located in the Activities Building next to the concession stand.
“It is convenient for me when I have a long break between classes I can go and get in shape while I have the extra time,” Jacob Mills, education sophomore, said.
The fitness center’s goal is to provide a safe, clean and friendly environment for everyone to use.
It has just recently installed two new televisions to provide you with the news and what is going on while you exercise, as well as a radio to work out to.
It is equipped with more than 10 weight machines to work your biceps and triceps.
It also has a number of cardiovascular equipment to keep your heart rate pumping.
The cardiovascular equipment include a few treadmills for you to walk or run on as well as a few bikes to get your legs in shape.
Also it has an Elliptical, a Stairmaster, Nordic Track, and some Crosstrainers, everything for a full body workout.
“I need a workout that fits into my crazy schedule and is free at that,” Kayla Martson, nursing student, said.
The intramural office provides a free weight room seminar orientation for first time users to attend.
They are open seven days a week, Monday through Friday at 8 p.m., Monday through Thursday they close at 10 p.m. and Friday at 5 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday they are open from 1p.m. until 5 p.m. for all the weekenders to get their work out in.
You must sign in at the front desk inside the door of the fitness center and show them your U Card.
If you are caught using the equipment without a U Card or a Grenadier card you will be charged a $5 guest pass charge.
They have the right to deny access without one of those two cards.
You cannot wear jeans or cut off shorts, you must wear a shirt and tennis shoes, no open toe shoes are allowed.
You must wipe off any equipment after the use of it and keep the equipment off the floor and return it to its proper place.
When using the weights a spotter is recommended but not a must.
Last but not least they do not want you dropping or throwing the weights on the floor.
As long as you follow the rules of the fitness center you have access to a free fitness center.
Stop by and give it a try now you have no excuses for not working out, it’s right on campus.
