The Student Government Association discussed adding a one- or two-day fall break at IU Southeast for the 2013 year at the SGA meeting Nov. 4.
Senator Max Johnson, general studies freshman, said the fall break would be right before midterms.
“A lot of students feel really stressed around midterms, and I think a one- or two-day break would really help them out,” Johnson said.
Johnson said IU Bloomington’s SGA got a fall break approved there.
Not all of the senators approved of the fall break. Senator Matt Owen, political science sophomore, said the campus doesn’t need a fall break because most students don’t have classes on Fridays.
“If the school ends up going a full week in the future, then a fall break is fine,” Owen said, “but most students already have a three-day weekend.”
Owen also brought a resolution to the meeting. The resolution was to have the IUS Campus Police provide the rules and regulations of parking passes when one is purchased.
Owen, who sits on the parking appeals committee, said most students are getting tickets because their parking passes are not in the right spot on their windshields.
“They leave a stack of the rules and regulations on the corner of the desk and say the student is responsible for knowing the regulations,” Owen said.
Jen Crompton, assistant director of Residence Life, told the SGA members to talk to Charles Edelen, IUS Police chief, one-on-one to see if they can get the procedure changed without a resolution. The resolution was passed, but Crompton continued to urge the senators to speak with Edelen.
