The IUS volleyball team lost their match up against the Campbellsville University Tigers on Wednesday, Oct. 22, in a 3-0 loss of 25-23, 25-19, 25-22.
In the first set each team started off good. Each team making point after point, but Campbellsville edged out at the end to win by 25-23.
The second set was a little tougher for the Grenadiers as Campbellsville played strong and won by 25-19.
In the third set it looked like the Grenadiers might make a good fight for the set, but the Campbellsville Tigers fought back to win by 25-22.
Cassie Boone, freshman libero, made some good serves in this set and Katie Tinsley, senior setter, showed some hustle when she ran into the score table hitting the ball back to Campbellsville.
This was the second time for the Grenadiers to play against Campbellsville.
“They’re a nationally ranked team, to not consider their ranking is it to disrespect them,” Angie Buckingham, IUS assistant coach, said.
Buckingham also said that Campbellsville had a strong hitting team this year, but the Grenadiers had just won a game last weekend and were using that to get energized.
“We are starting to peak and with the win against the Union team, last week, we are using that as motivation,” Buckingham said, before the game against Campbellsville.
Unfortunately it was not enough for the Grenadiers to beat Campbellsville.
“As a whole we could have brought each other up,” Stacey Flatt, junior setter, said
“We were there, just needed extra intensity.”
Another volleyball player said they could have supported each other more.
“I was surprised with how we played,” Tinsley said.
“We were strong, but we could have gathered up and cheered more.”
