The Student Government Association began their meeting on Sept. 29 by swearing in Ryan Miller, education junior, as a full-time senator.
Normally, senators have to go through a two-week probationary period before they can become full senators. However, since Miller was a senator last fall, the SGA voted him in on Sept. 22.
“I would like a motion to open elections for the tech officer position,” Josh Sesar, math junior and SGA senator, said.
The motion was seconded and the SGA nominated members.
Miller was the only senator nominated for the position, and when the SGA put it to a vote, the decision was unanimous.
“I do appreciate everyone’s faith in me,” Miller said. “I would like to revamp our site and get it updated.”
Matt Owen, political science junior and SGA senate chair, said Candice Boudreaux, business junior and former secretary for the SGA, finally resigned.
“Candice sent me her letter of resignation earlier this week,” Owen said. “She got an internship and isn’t able to be active at the meetings.”
Owen also mentioned a bill that will show up next week about purchasing office supplies.
“I will be writing the bill up tonight,” Owen said. “If any senator can think of anything that we need then, let me know or write up a bill explaining why.”
Owen also talked about how students have been approaching him for help.
“I’m not real sure how to take it,” Owen said. “It’s great.”
Josh Kornberg, communications junior and SGA president, said Tom Sawyer, chief information officer, was impressed with the reformation of the organization.
“Tom would like to have the design team that did the IUS site do our site,” Kornberg said. “We would have a clean, fast and professional site.”
Stephon Moore, journalism freshman, said he will be working on a bulletin board for different organizations to hang fliers on.
Owen said the absence of a press secretary position has also been causing some trouble.
“The problem is that since the position isn’t filled, there is no one to oversee this committee,” Owen said.
Kornberg said the SGA will be going through a lot of changes this semester and next.
“Our keyword on campus this year is change,” Kornberg said, “and we are changing a lot.”
