The Student Government Association had their meeting on Oct. 5 and swore in the probationary senators Stephon Moore, journalism freshman, and Brandon Smith, secondary education freshman.
“It’s good to be a full senator,” Smith said. “I really want to be able to help other students.”
Hannah Smith, sociology sophomore, was nominated for an associate justice position.
“Hannah used to be a senator on the SGA, however, she had to resign,” Josh Kornberg, communications senior and SGA president, said. “I have been talking to her, and she would like to be one of our justices.”
Kevin Evans, secondary education junior and SGA vice president, brought up a report that said each school on campus would have two seats on the SGA.
“This plan would give every school on campus a say in what is going on in these meetings,” Evans said.
Jennifer Broadus, general studies junior and SGA treasurer, said she supports this movement.
“As long as the students make the final decision, this is a great plan,” Broadus said.
Ryan Miller, secondary education junior and SGA tech officer, made a motion to end discussion on the topic.
“We don’t have enough information to make a decision about this right now,” Miller said. “Let Kevin get his interviews with all the deans done first, and then we’ll come back to it.”
The motion was passed and Owen made a motion to end the meeting.
However, Broadus said they still had time to talk about the topic.
“We still have 18 minutes left to discuss this, we’re all here why wait?” Broadus asked.
Kornberg said the change wouldn’t go into effect now, so there is still time to discuss it.
“This is in its first phase,” Kornberg said. “There is a lot more that needs to be taken care of before a complete decision can be put into effect.”
