First introduced at the campus during the Spring 2008 semester, LibGuides—content management and information sharing systems—allow students to access related course material without having to peruse endless pages on a general search engine.
“They are online guides designed to connect students with relevant library resources for their research,” Maria Accardi, assistant librarian, said.
Designed as article or database homepages for specific classes, they provide information from library resources as well as outside sources. LibGuides reduce the time students spend searching for relevant information on the internet.
Much like the more common databases Infotrac and EbscoHost, the LibGuides create online subject or course guides which collect any and all information in a centralized location.
Some classes offered at IU Southeast require their students to use library resources when researching course material. The library provides instruction on how to access their resources and LibGuide training is taught in conjunction with that instruction.
Students aren’t required to attend the library instruction to be able to access the LibGuides.
By clicking the “Library” link under the “Alumni and Community” headline on the IUS homepage, students are directed to the library’s homepage where they can click on the “Course and Subject LibGuides” link which will allow them to access the databases.
