The Student Government Association passed a bill that would pay up to $8 per person for students going on the Hoosiers for Higher Education trip on Feb. 17.
This is the 18th annual HHE trip. Students will have an opportunity to mingle with public officials and lobby for educational issues. The event is free. Students will leave IU Southeast at 8:30 a.m. and not return until that evening.
• The next SGA president will have a phone in their office thanks to the passing of the President Phone Bill. The bill will make it possible for a landline phone to be installed in the president’s office. The installation won’t happen until after the SGA elections that take place before spring break.
• Other bills that passed were the Homecoming Support Bill, which allots $400 for homecoming events and the President Engraving Bill that will allot $35 to engrave the last four student body presidents’ on the commemorative plaque hanging in the SGA office that lists the presidents names from 1967 to present.
• Three new senators were sworn in, Beverly Raley, Kyle Chiang, and Elizabeth Jackson. One new probationary senator, Erick Marquez, business sophomore, joined the senate.
• James Bonsall, treasurer and university affairs chair, said he thought about dropping one of his seats.
“I’m planning on resigning as university affairs chair,” Bonsall said. “I just don’t have time with all my other commitments.” Bonsall also sits on the budgetary committee and campus budget advisory group. The university affairs committee addresses concerns brought to SGA by students.
