The Horizon

Tell me what you want

IUS Horizon September 15, 2009
If humanity’s learned nothing else by our time here on this planet, it should be that nothing survives if it is unwilling to adapt to its surroundings.

Rock me all night long

IUS Horizon September 15, 2009
Last year, I made one of the most sensible purchases of my life. I bought a rocking chair.

Observations, frustrations

IUS Horizon September 5, 2009
As a third year student, there are certain things around campus I’ve noticed as being very ineffective and uninformative. This semester the campus seems to be going a tad overboard with the plastic yard signs. In case you haven’t noticed the yard signs from the IUS Police and Campus Life, as well as the tobacco-free signs, take a quick look.

To tell you the truth

IUS Horizon September 5, 2009
Even though sometimes it’s harder to tell the truth instead of hiding behind a lie, I wish more people would do it a lot more often. The truth is, I’m sure, that a lot of people on campus think I’m talking about a certain story that ran in the Courier-Journal’s Indiana section on Wednesday, Sept 3, but I’m not.

Good news, tuition going up

IUS Horizon September 5, 2009
Businesses all around have been cutting back their expenses more noticeably this year. Many of them are struggling to make a profit. IU is no exception. Even though many students look at this place as just a school, for all intents and purposes, it really is a multi-million dollar business. The university is doing its best to stay in operation and thrive.

Time to facebook the facts

IUS Horizon August 26, 2009
This summer was definitely the Summer of Facebook. I probably spent more time on Facebook in the past three months than doing anything else. A possible exception might be painting my house, which, of course, I chronicled on Facebook. So, what’s a 40-something college professor doing on Facebook? Well, I always wanted to be a farmer and a gangster.

The verdict is in

Kentucy basketball, dirty & sexy

IUS Horizon August 26, 2009
For those who have been living under a rock, here is a quick explanation of the situations. In 2003, Rick Pitino allegedly knocked up Karen Sypher, a Louisville woman, in a consensual sexual encounter and paid for the abortion.

University advertises wrong points

IUS Horizon April 20, 2009
Well, guys, I’m finally out of your hair. But not before I have one last opportunity to try to make a point. So, with one final battle cry, here it comes.

I want IUS to be great

IUS Horizon April 20, 2009
The Horizon has been known to print some scathing articles and columns. I have written my share of harsh stories. Recently, a fellow student mentioned to me how it seemed we want to make the school look bad and that we have no school spirit.

But I don't wanna leave

IUS Horizon April 20, 2009
I’m graduating soon, and as much as I hate to admit it, I’m sad to leave. The past 19 years of my life, I’ve been in school in one form or another. It’s eaten up hours upon days upon months of my life, and I’ve complained about having to attend it constantly.

Camping isn't like being homeless

IUS Horizon April 20, 2009
On Wednesday, April 15, a new student-led organization held “Barricade of Boxes.” I attended expecting students and faculty to be rallying for the homeless and trying to raise money from students living like the homeless. However, I was startled to see how students were really volunteering their time.
