IUS Volleyball’s nine-game win streak came to end on Tuesday, Sept. 28, after being defeated by Campbellsville University.
The Grenadiers lost to the Tigers in three straight sets, 25-9, 25-23 and 25-17. The loss drops IU Southeast to 10-8 for the season.
The IUS Volleyball team defeated Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Sept. 24 in the Activities Building.
The Grenadiers lost the first set, 25-8 and the third set, 25-22, but were able to pull out a win in the second, fourth and final sets, 25-22, 25-16 and 16-14.
“We definitely started slow, but we were able to come back and finish well for a win in the end,” Lindsey Ragland, sophomore right-side hitter, said.
The IUS Volleyball team defeated Mountain State University in the first match of three in the Activities Building on Saturday, Sept. 25.
The Grenadiers won the last three games of the match, bringing the Grenadiers’ record to 9-7 for the season.
IU Southeast fought in the first game, ultimately losing 25-22.
When looking for the leader of the IUS Volleyball Team, one candidate stands out.
Lauren McCartin, computer graphics junior, plays as the libero and defensive specialist. She is the only junior on a team that has no seniors and five freshmen.
At 22 years old, McCartin is also nearly two years older than any of her teammates.

The Grenadiers defeated the Golden Eagles in three straight sets, 25-20, 25-21 and 25-12.
After starting the season 1-7, the Grenadiers have fought back and won six straight, bringing their record to 7-7 for the season.
Perry Brown, head of intramural sports and fitness center coordinator, has been employed at IU Southeast for four years.
Brown said he took the position at IU Southeast because he wanted to get back into campus recreation.
“I used to work as a recreation center worker in Henderson, Ky., and, when the position opened at IU Southeast, I couldn’t pass it up,” Brown said. “I really enjoy the campus environment and athletics.”

The Grenadiers lost a close first set, 25-22, but pushed back by winning the next three, 25-10, 25-17 and 25-18.
“I don’t know what they were doing the first set,” Lesley Drury-Prather, IUS Volleyball head coach, said. “I have no idea who that team was, but thank goodness they woke up and came alive to pull off the next three.”

The Grenadiers rallied and won the second game 25-20, only to lose the next two games, 25-20 and 25-21 and the match.
Competitive to a fault is a description Adam Denney, nursing senior, said he uses to define his willpower to succeed.
“It helps me in a lot of things I do like nursing and my tennis career,” Denney said.
Denney’s determination paid off this year when he was named one of Daktronics-NAIA Male Tennis Scholar Athletes of 2010.
During the summer, the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletes honored Joe Glover, interim athletic director, for his work on the IUS Athletics website.
The NAIA and the Sports Information Directors of America had their annual NAIA-SIDA Convention on July 3 in Atherton, Calif., at Menlo College.
Joe Glover, interim athletic director, and the IUS Athletics Department announced Aug. 18 that Clay Ryan had been named the new interim sports information specialist.
Ryan is filling the position left by Glover, who became interim athletic director after the resignation of Pat Mrozowski in July.
Glover said he is more than confident that Ryan is a perfect fit for the position.
