The IUS baseball team was narrowly defeated by the Mighty Oaks of Oakland City University, with a final score of 10-9 on April 2. “I think they just showed up here because they had to,” Ben Reel, IUS baseball head coach, said. “They didn’t show up to win.” However, the Grenadiers put up a strong fight before the end of the game.

Mychal Harris, communications junior, was named the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Baseball Player of the Week on March 12. KIAC is made up of five teams: Brescia, IU Southeast, Asbury, Berea and Alice Lloyd. Benjamin Reel, IUS baseball head coach, has been working with Harris for two years.

Eagles strike Grenadiers out

The IUS baseball team lost their game on March 10 against Asbury University. Despite a strong start from IU Southeast, the final score was 3-0, in favor of Asbury. Fielding first, the Grenadiers had Trey Richard, junior infielder, playing shortstop. A.J. Doyle, junior infielder, played third base while Brian Crider, sophomore, played catcher. In addition, Marcus Howard, freshman outfielder, played from left field, Justin Hurst, junior infielder, was at first base, Frank Pluskota, sophomore infielder, was at second base and Jacob Holtz, sophomore pitcher, was pitching. Richard said he felt good about certain aspects of the game that day.

Grenadiers win then lose to Ravens

The IUS baseball team had its first home game on Tuesday, Feb. 28. The Grenadiers played against the Anderson University Ravens in a doubleheader. The teams split. The Grenadiers shut out the Ravens the first game, with a score of 5-0.

Grenadiers travel for late start, win despite odds

The IUS baseball team defeated Berea College on March 3, despite a late start. Travel conditions delayed the game by almost three hours. It was a tough game for the Grenadiers, as Berea pulled ahead many times in the game.
