Sophomore tennis player named KIAC Player of the Week

The IUS men’s tennis team picked up their first individual award of the season following the week of March 29 when sophomore Kevin Sacksteder was named the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week. Sacksteder won both of his matches against Asbury College, winning with teammate Matt Coomer, Spanish junior, in their doubles match and also winning his singles match.

Men’s tennis cruises past Asbury

The IUS men’s tennis team defeated visiting Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent Asbury College 7-2 on April 1. The Grenadiers faced off against Asbury University in three doubles matches and six singles matches. The Grenadiers won two of the three doubles matches and five of the six singles matches.

Tennis coach takes pride in consistency

Consistency is a significant word to IUS men’s tennis coach, Yancey Walters. He said it’s what makes him unique from coaches of other campuses. “I show up consistently,” Walters said. “A lot of people wouldn’t think much of it, but it’s a big deal to me. I make sure that I’m here to interact and work with my team. I also have to pay attention to my team’s grades and their outside behavior to make sure they are able to maintain a spot on the team.”

Men’s tennis team looks forward to defending KIAC championship
