Amanda Stonecipher, new director of Residence Life and Housing, has been working the summer away preparing Residence Life and the lodges for fall semester students.
“Summer is the busiest time,” Stonecipher said. “We have to successfully move out all the spring semester students.”
Since she took her position on April 16, Stonecipher said she and the other staff members of Residence Life have been busy with yearly summer work.
Residence Life and Housing is currently conducting a search to find a new director. In order to receive opinions from student residents, several open sessions were held in order to provide feedback about the candidates.
Currently, there are three candidates seeking the position — Amanda Stonecipher, Scott Iverson and Matthew Kerch.
Stonecipher spoke at an open session on Feb. 6, while Kerch spoke on Feb. 9. Iverson’s open session was on Feb. 8.
More than 150 students were met with the hit song “Thriller” by Michael Jackson upon entering the Hoosier Room on Sept. 15. The room was donned with brightly colored nylons, poufy hair and leg warmers to mark the annual ’80s Night event held by Residence Life and Housing.
The Hoosier Room was filled with streamers, balloons and cardboard character cutouts, including Princess Leia from “Star Wars” and Freddy Kreuger from “Nightmare on Elm Street.” The large screen at the front of the room played music videos of Madonna, as well as the movie “Grease” via YouTube.
Jen Crompton, associate director of Residence Life, welcomed students at the door.
