The IUS Student Government Association (SGA) is using funds to initiate a calculator loaning program.
By as early as the beginning of next week, the SGA will have available scientific and graphing calculators for rent, free of charge, to IUS students who need them for classes. The student government is beginning the program as a trial run to determine the technological needs of students.
In the future, the goal is to be able to offer a larger range of resources, including devices such as tablets. If the program is successful, it can allow students to have access to current technology each year as even recently purchased devices seem to become obsolete every day.
As it develops in the future and more devices are available, fees may be applied to compensate for the cost of the technology, but the overall objective will remain to provide a cheaper alternative to investing in the ever-evolving world of gadgets.
Students who are interested should go to the Student Government office on the lower level of the University Center South building, near the bookstore.
The President of the Student Government Assoc. is Stephon Moore and questions about the calculator rental program were fielded by Senate Chair, Joshua Scantland. Both are available to answer questions about the program in the SGA office during posted hours.
