On Monday, March 9, at approximately 2:30 p.m., I was hungry. I didn’t feel like getting in my car and heading to a fast food restaurant, so I decided to hit up the University Center Food Court. I ordered a turkey sandwich on a pita with pepper jack cheese, lettuce, pickles and mayo. Sounds easy enough.
I take the plastic off to eat my sandwich and think to myself, “hmmmm. They didn’t give me lettuce.” I was about to go back to the food court to get my lettuce, but then I saw a small white vegetable shoved down in the side. I pulled it out to discover it was the lettuce I thought I was missing.
I usually get lettuce on my sandwiches, but this piece of lettuce was smaller than the size of my palm, and I have pretty small hands. In addition to being very small, it was also the hard white part of the lettuce, with no sign of the leafy green parts I find most enjoyable. I’m not a lettuce guru by any means, but I expect the people in the kitchen to give me a sandwich they would want to eat. It’s not too much to ask for and I don’t think they would eat that sorry excuse for a piece of lettuce.
I think the reason I was so mad was because I was really hungry, stressed out and have had bad experiences with Food Services before. It seems like every time I order something there is a problem.
So, why do I keep ordering if I keep getting disappointed? Maybe I’m a trusting person and I think they will some day get it right, or maybe I want them to get things wrong so I can complain about it in the paper. Who knows?
Student Affairs has been sending out surveys regarding the food court the past few weeks. I filled out my survey and left them very useful feedback. Not only did I mention they needed to be more consistent in the way they make their sandwiches, but they also need to train their workers better. Not everyone can perfect the art of sandwich making; one must be trained.
I urge you to complete your survey and be as truthful as possible so they will try to improve. Rumor has it that there are big changes coming for Food Services. I am hoping it will be for the better, especially now that we have dorms. More students will be utilizing Food Services and they need to be able to accommodate them.
You should give your input if you eat there, or don’t complain when they give you a crappy piece of lettuce. I filled out the survey, so I complain when they give me bad food.
