Wake up, it’s almost time for midterms!
If you are feeling low on energy, how about making a quick and easy smoothie, or tossing together a delicious green salad to boast your energy and help you achieve your goals this semester? Kimberly Pelle, the Program Coordinator of the Non-Traditional Student Center at IU Southeast, hosted a “social learning experience” that will broaden student’s horizons.
Global Interventions Ventures in Education (G.I.V.E.) presented Healthy Lifestyles and Multi- Ethnic Power Foods Monday, Oct.14, with another presentation on Oct. 15 at 12:15pm-1:15pm. Their goal is to educate students on the topic of green sustainability and living a holistic life style.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency, green sustainability means creating and fostering a positive balanced relationship between humans and nature while harmoniously maintaining our social, economic and other criteria for our present and future generations.
The two-day presentation was held at University Center South, room 206, where students engaged in healthy eating habits, which is one of the many aspects involved in green sustainability. Three tasty and nutritious power food recipes were shared with IUS students who attended the event.
In attendance was Emylie Cox, history major, who first became interested in organic foods for a healthy lifestyle when she learned about growth hormones being used in our food in her biology class. More students like Emylie are wanting to know more and are actively researching ways to “go green.”
This was a terrific experience for IUS students to become educated on exciting ways to incorporate green sustainability and healthy lifestyles into their daily routines.
