Destinee Barr was killed in a car accident on Friday, Nov. 1 in Woodford County, Ky. Barr was a nursing freshman at IU Southeast and graduate of North Bullitt High School.
As reported by the Lexington Herald Header, Barr and two other teens were on their way to visit a friend at the University of Kentucky when they were involved in a fatal accident. Woodford County investigators suspect the accident to have been caused by late-night storms.
Both Barr and another teen, Marissa Elmore, were pronounced dead at the scene. The third teen was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover.
Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management & Student Affairs Jason Meriwether sent an email to all IUS students and faculty Monday morning informing them of Barr’s death:
“We send our sympathies to Destinee’s family, and to the family of Marissa Elmore who also died in the accident. Our thoughts and prayers are also with Miranda Smith, who survived and is in the hospital recovering from injuries.”
A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Schoppenhorst, Underwood, and Brooks Funeral Home in Shepherdsville (5895 N Preston Hwy) with burial in BrooklandCemetery. Friends may show their respects after 9 a.m. prior to the service.
