I’m going to take this space to talk about all the things I want to change about IU Southeast, or just things I dislike. I’m a stinker, aren’t I?
First of all, being the broadcast editor, I would change the fact that we don’t have a broadcast department! Our school spends more on marketing our campus and talking about how great it is than on keeping up with technology. All we need is a professor and a studio. We have the rest. I couldn’t help but laugh when I found out our school has all this equipment to create video and graphics, but students can’t use it. It is only to be used by faculty to promote our campus. This made me furious. Moving on.
I absolutely hate what we put our money toward on campus. Why would we give our Athletics Department all most of our Student Activity Fee, when no one goes to the games but the families of the players? Then we go and buy an ugly-looking mascot outfit and name it Gus. We spent around eight grand on that piece of crap for five people to see during a few basketball games, because, let’s face it, that’s the only time we are going to see Gus.
Next, the people who run this campus are on a complete power trip. Are you so insecure that you have to be e-mailed questions before you talk to someone? Are you trying to hide something? Why not hire a personal public relations practitioner to tell you how to deal with the media and what not to do? Or I could do it for free. Stop doing what you are doing and do the complete opposite. When did our leaders become money-hungry and give themselves raises without doing the earned work? Oh yeah. That happened last year. Maybe I should run a school one day.
Why did we get rid of Subway? I actually liked it. Now I have to settle for whatever the cafeteria decides to serve. I vote we put Subway back in. A little competition is healthy! Our dining services should welcome restaurants onto campus. It would probably hurt them financially, but the variety would make me happy!
Oh, and here’s one for you: why don’t you pay our teachers more? I think the people teaching us and preparing us for the future should be paid more than the people that “run” our school. I’m sure most professors would take a little heavier work load from you if they got paid what you did. I’m tired of seeing my teachers struggle to make ends meet. That’s what college students are supposed to do because you take all of our money.
I will have to say this about our campus: I enjoyed my time here for the most part. My friends have been amazing and my professors have taught me everything I need in life and so much more. I have connected with so many amazing people. It will be hard to leave them. Not that hard, but hard.
You can agree with me or disagree. I don’t really care. You can e-mail me and complain about my article all you want, but if you read carefully, this is the opinions page and I can say whatever I want. So BOO YAH!
