Capturing the moods, the moments or random things placed before your eyes can inspire interesting topics.
Whenever I have idle time during the semester, I make a conscience effort to sit on campus to get to know folks or “people watch.”
Hearing the term people watching you’d automatically assume I was out to get someone or make light of another person.
You’re damned right.
Just to forewarn you, it’s not any person in particular, but it’s a nasty practice campus administrators should have formally addressed long ago.
The practice I speak of is the practice of wearing pajamas outside the home.
Who in the hell started this trend and why?
On any given day on the campus of IU Southeast you can find many people who feel comfortable wearing pajamas to class.
So far I’ve seen Pokemon, Tinker Bell, SpongeBob SquarePants and others I don’t even care to name.
Some days I just raise my eyebrows and wonder if these people are really serious.
I had to revert back to my childhood, and remember the speeches my parents used to give about me never leaving the house looking a hot mess.
If there was one thing people remembered about the Daniels children, we were presentable.
I’m not saying students have to be Halle Berry, Denzel or Angelina at 8 a.m., but being presentable goes a long way.
Another thing contributing to this problem are the lodges. I’m not saying all students residing in them resort to this practice, but large majorities do.
Those who participate in the wearing of the pajamas feel they’re living right next to the buildings so dressing isn’t an option.
True enough people are tired and busy, but it doesn’t justify looking like an overgrown child prancing around on campus.
Who really wants to see someone wear the same pajamas everyday?
Who wants to see women walking around in things “Victoria” would call a scandalous secret?
I’m a firm believer in come as you are, but some people take the invitation overboard.
Students this is your transition to the real world and you should consider dressing for success apart of your résumé.
It shouldn’t take Career Services or a class to tell you how to dress while in public. It’s common sense plain and simple.
Really think about the campus officials when they see you on a daily basis.
If you’re not dressing for success, how can they take you seriously?
I think campus officials should ban pajamas from being worn throughout campus. It doesn’t represent the university or yourself at all.
Students wake up and realize you only have one time to make that first impression.
Getting up a little earlier to look decent won’t hurt you.
Leave the pajamas for the little kids in primary school.
Some of you try to be so cool but don’t realize you look like a damn fool.
