About a dozen IUS students experienced cultures from around the world at WorldFest 2010, which took place at the Belvedere on the Louisville Riverfront Sept. 3.
Campus Life sponsored a bus that left McCullough Plaza at 5:30 p.m.
The students attended the eighth annual WorldFest without having to worry about driving through downtown Louisville and finding parking.
WorldFest is a celebration of various cultures from around the world.
It was free to attend, but a wide array of booths had items for sale.
More than 35 booths sold world cuisine, including treats like Italian desserts and Thai noodles, but for those craving standard “fair food,” hot dogs and french fries were also available.
Vendors also sold wares representing their culture. Indian jewelry, Chinese Zodiac trinkets and Native American arrowheads decorated the area.
More than 55 informational booths were staffed with people giving out brochures and sharing general knowledge pertaining to their business, company or club.
Booths ranged from Actors Theatre of Louisville to the German American Club to the Hispanic Latino Coalition.
Many local schools also had booths.
IU Southeast’s booth featured information for those curious about the university.
Gloria Murray, dean of the School of Education, and Leslie Turner, Financial Aid counselor, helped operate the booth and answer questions.
While going through the booths, visitors could enjoy world music throughout the area. On three different lawns, bands played on stages. Irish, Latino and Reggae music were included.
IUS students weren’t the only ones along for the ride. Also attending were Seuth Chaleunphonh, dean of Student Life, and Subhranil De, assistant professor of physics.
Students walked around for about three hours before meeting at the bus and returning to campus.
WorldFest also continued on Saturday, Sept. 4. Events that day included a parade of cultures and various performances, such as African American, Hispanic and Vietnamese dance groups.
