IUS groups get out vote by hosting registration

Politically-affiliated campus groups hosted a voter registration drive to give students a chance to participate in the 2012 local and national elections. The event took place in the Hoosier Room on Oct. 1 and 8. The College Democrats sponsored the registration drive along with the ONE organization. College Republicans and the IUS Civil Liberties Union also had tables at the event.

IUS promotes political activism

Students discovered how to become more involved and better informed in politics during “Constitution Day: Powering the Individual Citizen,” hosted by the IUS Civil Liberties Union. The event featured a panel of IUS political science professors and a representative from the American CLU of Indiana who shared ways students can take an active stance in government. Stephon Moore, political science and journalism sophomore and president of the IUS CLU, said Constitution Day should be important to students because it impacts their everyday lives.

Sean Welch, political science senior and president of the IUS Civil Liberties Union, said he believes the U.S. is facing a moral dilemma known as inequality. “Obviously not everyone is going to be completely equal,” Welch said. “Some people are going to be taller than others; however, there should be some sort of equitable beginning." Welch said he believes income equality should become a reality in the U.S.
