The old bus stop on McCullough Plaza at IU Southeast was taken down during the winter break. This comes after a new bus stop location and shelter were built in the Central Parking Lot on campus.
Where the TARC bus was stopping before was causing some problems on Alumni Drive.
“Where the bus stop was there wasn’t room for the bus to sit in that little turn around in McCullough Plaza,” Jim Wolfe, Director of the Physical Plant at IU Southeast, said. “They tend to leak oil, so it was making a mess of the whole area. And our stop is actually a layover where they will sit until their route times catch up with them. So, they may be there for 10 to 20 minutes.”
Wolfe said the new bus stop location, which was finished in the fall semester, solves this problem by moving the bus out of traffic while still being accessible to faculty and students.
“There’s a shelter down there were people can sit in bad weather and a couple benches for people to sit on a nice day,” Wolfe said.
While there are currently no plans for the old bus stop location, Wolfe said they are considering putting a picnic table there as an extra place to sit in McCullough Plaza.
