Monsters, fairies, super heroes and bumblebees gather in the Hoosier Room to dance the night away at the fourth annual Halloween Bash sponsored by Residence Life and Housing.
The bash was put on by community advisers from the residence halls and Jen Crompton, assistant director of Residence Life.
The Halloween Bash was from 9 p.m. until midnight, and students danced, snacked, participated in contests and talked with friends during the party.
As students walked into the Hoosier Room, they had to sign in and were able to cast their vote for a door decorating contest that the residence halls on campus participated in.
Students who live in the residence halls were allowed to decorate their doors for Halloween, and whichever room got the most votes won four Walmart gift cards, one for every student in the room.
Grove Lodge, room 114, won the door decorating contest, and Grove, room 110, was given an honorable mention.
Kayla Jennings, accounting freshman, said she was disappointed in only getting an honorable mention for the contest.
“There was a lot of work put into our door,” Jennings said. “We’re competitive with things like that.”
The Halloween Bash was also on the same night as the TKE Halloween Bash, and some students said they thought it may have had an impact on attendance for the on-campus bash.
Hannah Smith, elementary education sophomore and community adviser for the Grove Lodge, said the TKE party did not seem to have an impact on the Residence Life and Housing party.
“The guests that attended the Halloween party were not disappointed in missing the TKE party,” Smith said. “I don’t think that we let the idea of an off-campus event bring the motivation down for ours at all. It was great to see so many people come out.”
Students in costume got to walk down a runway for the costume contest.
The rest of the attendees cheered for the costumes they thought were the best.
David Bennett, general studies senior, won the contest wearing a Ghostbusters costume complete with ghost-busting gear.
“The runway for costumes is a classic that is done every year,” Smith said. “It was so cool seeing everyone’s costumes.”
Jason Voegerl, biology freshman, was the disc jokey for the event. He was asked to play music at the bash by Smith and said he thought the idea sounded fun.
“Jason did a great job with playing what everyone wanted to hear,” Smith said.
