Hundreds of people gathered in Louisville on Bardstown Road for the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade, which took place on March 10.
The streets were flooded with green while families and people of all ages gathered to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.
The theme of the parade was Shamrocks and Shillelaghs.
The St. Patrick’s Day Parade Organization said the parade recognized two Irish Persons of the Year — Tim Clark, owner of Mulligan’s Pub, and Brig. Gen. Fr. Dolan, chaplain for the Army National Guard.
Clark donated his kidney to save a high school friend, and Dolan is a war veteran who served in Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Egypt.
Organizations and local businesses in Kentucky were also part of the parade.
Some organizations involved in the parade included Louisville Pipe Band, Irish Society of Kentuckiana and the Shamrock Foundation, Inc.
Local businesses participated in the parade, such as O’Shea’s Irish Pub, McClanahan School of Irish Dance and Molly Malone’s Irish Pub and Restaurant.
Vlad Kifaruk, undecided junior from the University of Louisville, said he thought the parade was great.
“The parade was better than I expected,” Kifaruk said. “They were throwing candy and green necklaces to everyone on the street. You could tell everyone was really having a great time.”
Brandon Lemons, business junior from Spalding University, said he enjoyed seeing all the people come together to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.
“I’ve had a great time,” Lemons said. “It’s great to see families and people of all ages come out, have a good time and celebrate St. Patrick’s Day together.”
