Students claim victory for writing competition

IU Southeast took home numerous awards at the 2012 Metroversity Writing Competition on March 29. Eight IUS students won this year, placing first and second in four of the five undergraduate categories, which included fiction, non-fiction, poetry, academic and international writing. Leigh Ann Meyer, director of the Writing Center, said she was excited about this year’s competition.

Lady Grenadiers poach Eagles

The IUS women’s basketball team pulled off a win against the Alice Lloyd Eagles during homecoming on Feb. 11, with a score of 63-60. The game came down to the last second and was not an easy win for the Lady Grenadiers. Alice Lloyd played a rough game filled with knock-downs and pushes as they flew down the court.

IUS graduate coaches baseball team

Ben Reel, IUS baseball head coach, is going into his fourth year with IU Southeast. At 28 years old, Reel is one of the youngest coaches in college baseball to reach the 100th-win milestone. Reel originally started at IU Southeast as the assistant coach for the baseball team.

Coordinator assists with family-oriented programs

Kimberly Pelle, coordinator for Non-Traditional Student Programs and Family Parent and Children Programs, is a popular face around campus. She works with students who have their own families, and she coordinates related programs around campus. Pelle said she knows what it means to juggle school, work and a family because she has been down that road before. “I know how hard it is with a family, job and school,” Pelle said. “That is why I took the job.”
